R&D Engineer / Industrial PhD student
Both industry and the society as a whole is faced with a massive challenge to switch from a fossil-based economy to more sustainable approaches. KTH, Royal Institute of Technology, a highly ranked university with strong research groups in the field of organic synthesis, biomaterials and polymers, and Nouryon, former AkzoNobel Speciality Chemicals, are together looking into the possibilities of introducing biobased materials in new and innovative ways with the aim to accelerate the development of sustainable products.
This research project aims to provide fundamental understanding of the use of biobased building blocks for transforming the commercial materials Nouryon work with today into biobased formulations. The knowledge gained within the project will provide invaluable insights and tools for the both academic and industrial scientists in this field and it will give understanding for future developments and innovations.
The student will be based at KTH, Stockholm.
To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following
· passed a degree at advanced level,
· completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or
· in any other way acquired essentially equivalent knowledge.
In order to succeed as a doctoral student at KTH you need to be goal oriented and persevering in your work. In the selection of the applicants, the following will be assessed:
ability to independently pursue his or her work
ability to collaborate with others
have a professional approach and
analyse and work with complex issues
experience within product related organic or polymer chemistry, syntheses, analyses and laborative work procedures
Very good knowledge in English is a prerequisite for the position. In addition to the qualification requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and personal suitability.
Key objectives of this PhD student position is to strengthen the Nouryon business by:
Participate in scientific studies and independently execute activities and sub-projects
Contribute to explorative work and product related research in the new chemistry platform of biobased materials
Contribute to the survey and communication of relevant external and scientific research in the field of biobased materials
Contribute to the continuous build up of kn owledge around new materials, processes and applications
