To our department within R&D Dust and Slurry and Construction Division we are searching for a mechanical student to do a Thesis project which include modeling and simulation of fan performance using CFD.

Thesis project: Modeling and Simulation of Fan Performance using CFD 
Husqvarna vacuum and air cleaner products need new generation fans with outstanding performance. The market need the fan to be quiet, compact and balanced fan static pressure and air flow rate.  An excellent design on fan aerodynamics is required. 

The purpose of the thesis work is to increase the understanding on fan design parameters which impact the fan static pressure and air flow rate. 
It is a merit to improve the understanding on how fan construction and blade design influences fan noise/vibration and fan size. 

The thesis will include work such as:

  • Develop simulation model for the fan aerodynamics and predict fan working performance under different working conditions. 
  • Investigate the fan design parameters which impact fan static pressure, air flow rate, vibration, product size and so on. The fan blade and air inlet and outlet are the main subjects to be analyzed and modelled. 
  • Investigate how the fan working performance can be improved in terms of working capacity and noise generation. 
  • Reporting will be through regular meetings and written documentation in the form of a ”Husqvarna design guideline” as well as the wishes of the university. 

The student is requested to have the fundamental knowledge in aerodynamics or fluid mechanics and have related CFD software experience. 

Proper area of education: Mechanical engineering
