Our department Concrete Surfaces and Floor at Construction Products are searching for students to do a thesis project about the below described subject.
Concept Development Process Toolbox
Product Development Projects become increasingly complex as new engineering domains are added into the scope of product. Where mechanical engineering had been predominant in the past we now develop product concepts comprising also software- and connectivity engineering as well as new service solutions.
To maintain competitiveness in R&D operations it is essential to continuously improve our time to market for those complex product development projects. Early project phases where the conceptual design is performed is a relevant phase to study for improvement potentials.
Objectives of Master Thesis
• Research on the current state of the art in the industry in terms of concept and pre-development tools and processes
• Identify the current status of concept development process within different areas of Husqvarna
• Research best practices
• Develop a “lean” Process and Toolbox for successful pre-development execution
• Pilot that Process and Tool in one of our new product Development Project
Keywords and areas of research: Agile, Lean PD, Value Engineering, QFD, Function Analyses and Function Decomposition, Concept Selection Process, Set based Concurrent Engineering, Parameter Analysis.
You are interested in the product development process and its actual application in practice, you want to learn about how “real engineers” work in an international company and you have a knack of understanding people and how they work.
Proper area of education: Engineering and Management
