Make a complete model of a planetary gear with respect of bearings, shaft deflections and tooth contacts. This should be made in our gear calculation program KISSsoft (+Code Aster open source FEM solver) and Creo Simulate. Perhaps also on additional systems like Romax and Ansys if needed. We would like to investigate how simple the model can be to be good enough and when it is needed to do more extensive calculations.
The task can of course be modified after agreement.
We develop many different planetary gear trains on our tools. The purpose for the gear train varies from product to product. It can be extremely light, long life, small, robust etc. We would like to get more knowledge in design criteria of these gears trains.
The main goal is to make a base understanding on how all deflections is impacting a planetary gear train and to find a reasonably easy way to calculate this.
• Find weakness/strengths in KISSsoft.
• Conclude how planet bearing load changes with different planet carrier design, pin length etc.
• Show how different planet carrier designs influences the contact pressure on teeth and bearings.
• Find out when we need to make more accurate calculation
• Visually analyse current planetary gears to verify analysis
• If possible make own test in our lab
• If possible make several calculation on different planetary gear to evaluate were and when we can benefit to calculate more accurate
• If possible make design rules

We believe that this master thesis is suitable for master students in mechanics with an interest in contact mechanics, FEM, gears and bearings.
Swedish is not a requirement, but will be considered a plus.
Our office is located in Sickla, Stockholm.
As this is a project position for studies and not an employment, it does not qualify for seeking a work permit. We can therefore only accept applications from students who are either attending Swedish universities or are EU-citizens.
