Target:

The aim of the project is to analyze current conventional manufacturing process when it comes to special sockets for tightening tools from a cost- and lead time perspective. Based on the results evaluate and propose a suitable calculation tool for evaluating additive manufacturing (AM) as complementary or replacing manufacturing method

Background:

The industrial manufacturing business has a long history of using conventional manufacturing machines e.g. lathes and milling machines for manufacturing of metal components. The traditional way of manufacturing is well suited for large volumes where the setup is a small part of the total machining time, in the special socket business small batches and a lot of machine setup is a challenge when manufacturing is performed with traditional production methods. When using traditional machining we produce a lot of chips since machining is performed from solid billets or bars, it may be possible to use additive manufacturing as a way to reduce the use of raw material.

Today the usage of additive manufacturing – 3D-printing – is not only limited to early prototyping but is applied on a much greater industrialized scale. With the new great possibilities 3D-printing provides, challenges follow to have solutions cost effective but also performing on a consistent high level

Mission:

Your mission in this project will be to understand the requirements of the products manufactured today, and investigate available metal additive manufacturing technologies from that perspective, and assess the availability of utilizing AM in production

Our office is located in Tierp, Sweden. The selection process will be ongoing so if you are interested in the position, don't hesitate to apply!
As this is a project position for studies and not an employment, it does not qualify for seeking a work permit. We can therefore only accept applications from students who are either attending Swedish universities (i.e. already have a student visa) or, if they are attending universities abroad, are EU-citizens.
