Master thesis project at SYNTRONIC
Syntronic AB is a global consultant company with 650 employees. The company is based in Gävle with offices in Göteborg, Kista, Linköping, Sandviken, Beijing, Chengdu, Ottawa and Kuala Lumpur. Our expertise in Göteborg is primarily in embedded systems, data science and algorithms. We seek two talented and dedicated master students with interest in embedded HW/SW and efficient implementations of algorithms.
FPGA development for ultrasonic microphone arrays
Microphone arrays systems are used for a number of applications in today´s industry. Examples include gunshot localization in urban environments and extracting speech during noisy phone calls. The positions and the number of microphones largely depends on their intended use. For large microphone arrays FPGAs can be used for processing due to their parallel computing power.
In this thesis project the students are supposed to design, implement and evaluate a microphone array connected to and partially analyzed in an FPGA development board. The particular application comes from biology and medicine and the application will play an important role in the evaluation of the system. The evaluation step will involve collaboration with researchers in medicine. More details will be given to students during the first interview.
The student should follow the master program in embedded system, biomedical engineering or similar. Skills in FPGA are expected. Skills in signal processing and machine learning can be useful and the interested students can work deep into the algorithmic aspects of the positioning while others might want to chose the most basic algorithm and put effort into hardware issues.
The successful students will have good chances to become employees at Syntronic after a completed thesis.
